PROJECT EXAMPLES

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OVERVIEW

The understanding of abuse and neglect in the long term care environment ensures the resident's right to be free from abuse and neglect as outlined in the federal regulations.  Not only is it a federal requirement, but a humanistic need as well.

Through instructing long-term-care facility staff, the aim of this project is to decrease the number of facility reported incidents and survey citations related to resident abuse and neglect.  The information will be delivered in self-paced e-learning modules supplemented with a group presentation.

Long-term-care facility staff typically consists of:
  • Task Workers (housekeeping, laundry, dietary, maintenance)

  • Direct Care / Clinical Staff (including therapists)

  • Administrative Staff

  • Facility volunteers

  • Supervisory staff

Characteristics:

  • Age, experience, and education levels will vary by facility.

  • Most are familiar with the federal mandate that abuse and neglect is not tolerated and required to be reported.

  • Most have an understanding from company policy and healthcare standards that abuse is wrong, but may not fully understand what constitutes abuse and neglect.
