Connections
Connected. In this day and age we all can Facebook, snap chat, Instagram, tweet, text, FaceTime, skype....so on and so on and instantly be connected. This is certainly a "screen" generation. But, has this brought us together; has it truly increased our connections with one another? No. It has disconnected us. We are so busy being linked in to our phones, I-pads, email, and devices that we do not actually make connections with the people directly in front of us.
I remember when my children were growing up we rarely watched television and they didn't have any game consoles until middle school, no cell phones until high school, and even then I was hesitant. I wanted real face-time, time to eat at the table, to talk, to read, to debate, to discuss, and even to strategize over a game together at the table. We had grand adventures outside and bonfires with friends. We danced around the house to music and enjoyed our company.
Now, sadly, go to any waiting room, restaurant, or anywhere people are gathered and no one is talking, no one is making eye contact, no humans are actually interacting - except with their cold, lifeless device. The sound of a text message stops all conversation and as soon as a conversation in a group gets boring no one tries to rally it, they just default to checking You Tube for something to entertain. So, ask yourself, are we more or less connected?
So, take some time, drop the lifeless connective device and connect in life.
Mathew 18:20 "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." (NIV)
Come out of the darkness of your devices and spend some time in the light, in fellowship with friends and family - perhaps even a few strangers who need to hear the Good News.
1John 1: 5-7
5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. (NIV)
