Binge Watch

We have all had that experience, watching a show on your favorite streaming device and the story is so captivating you have to watch the next episode, and then the next episode, and then hours have gone by. In common culture this is called binge watching.

Have you ever done this with the Bible? Gotten captivated by a verse because it seemed to contradict another verse? Because it feels like you have only scratched the surface? Because the scripture is difficult to understand? Because the context of the culture at the time it was written makes references unclear?

What do you do then? Just brush by it as not understood? Ignore it? We live in a world where we Google everything..... who was that actor? Who said that quote? When did that happen? Not knowing or remembering something bugs us so we look it up. What if we applied that same curiosity to God's word? The Bible is not a casual read, get lost in it, binge read it, research and dig deeper.

Hebrew's 4:12 tell us “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” It is the living word of God! That alone should captivate you to watch, listen, and read the word and binge on it. The word of God is binge-worthy and life changing as it says in 2Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” His Word is good for life, not just passive entertainment as revealed in Mathew 4:4, “Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”” There are three scriptures alone that make me want to dig deeper and binge on what God has to tell me.

So pause the Netflix, the Hulu, Amazon prime and YouTube and spend some time in the Word. Get lost in the promises, the wisdom, and the love. Binge watch as your mind gets lost in the Word and your heart is filled.
