Devotion

The word devotion implies consistent or intense effort despite difficulty.

This sounds a lot like Christian faith doesn’t it. There are times when it would be easier not to be a Christian. I read a Facebook post the other day and it actually disturbed me a bit. This person wrote that they were having some difficulties and a coworker asked them if they thought they were going to heaven. The difficulties surrounded the death of a friend and some other life

curveballs; which sparked the conversation. The poster responded I’ve done good things and lived a good life I believe I’m going to heaven. Then the poster wrote that coworker responded that they definitely needed to talk. The poster then wrote that she didn’t understand what the coworker meant.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8-9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus is the gateway to heaven; speak His name and find the path laid out for you. Follow Jesus, accept Him as Lord and you will be saved. Such a simple truth that so many struggle to understand.

I guess the coworker could have asked, “then why did Jesus have to die on a

cross if you could be good enough to go to heaven on your own?”

Maybe the post would have been a

bit different.

Jesus is asking for complete devotion to Him. Keeping our focus on our faith, even when it is difficult. We knew when we became Christian that it would be difficult. That Satan would paint a big target on our back. That we would also receive Jesus, all his power, all the warriors of heaven, and his mighty wings protecting us. So that when the difficult times do come, and they will, that we stay devoted to Jesus knowing that he is our savior and He is the way to heaven.
