Jesus Prayed

I was thinking about this… weird right? I mean if Jesus was God why would he ever need to pray? Wouldn't that be like talking to himself? So, why would he pray?

I can think of two reasons 1)in order to have a conversation with his father (and ours) and 2) to show that his humanity dealt with weakness through prayer, as an example for us.

The Bible tells us that Jesus prayed frequently and intensely. During his time on earth he prayed routinely.

“After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone,”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭14:23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”

‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:35‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭5:16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Prayer is time to position yourself in God’s hands, to listen to what He has to say, and to open your heart for the Holy Spirit to guide you. Prayer time should be a time of peace and thanksgiving; and a time to have a conversation with your best friend Jesus Christ and Father God. Your prayer time should be moments of deep breaths and serenity; it is also a time to pour out your heart to God. Not necessarily a time to complain but a time to talk through things with God and open your heart to his answers, his guidance, and his wisdom.

Prayer time should be sacred it should not be some thing that is procrastinated or set aside for things of this world. Carve out time for God just like you want him to be focused on you. It can be difficult with all of the busyness and the noise of this world, but that is when we need Him the most and he is there for us if we just talk to him through prayer.

Even in his last moments, knowing what was coming, Jesus took time to pray and cry out to God. If God himself, as Jesus Christ, prayed shouldn’t we?

““I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.”

‭‭John‬ ‭17:13-15‬ ‭NIV‬‬
