Nitpick
nitpick. verb. nit·pick ˈnit-ˌpik. : to criticize for tiny faults that are usually of little importance.
The world we live in will nitpick our every word, look, and belief; it will attack our hearts and minds to drag us into confusion and chaos. The devil loves doubt, confusion, offense, and chaos. He attacks our identity, our beliefs, and our faith while he steals our peace and joy.
When the devil tempted Eve and Jesus he challenged their faith... did God really say, don't you think God meant, doesn't the Bible say...
“Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?””
Genesis 3:1 NIV
““If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’””
Matthew 4:6 NIV
He devil knows the Bible too! He will use it to nitpick and twist you into confusion. The devil wants you to question God and His word, to doubt His teachings. He will even try to use the Bible against you, quoting your mistakes against the scripture, so he can cast shame and doubt upon you. A common approach to Bible doubt I hear today is that because Jesus said love everybody and love your enemy that we should just overlook sin - Wow, really?
Let's try that again, an old adage: love the sinner, hate the sin.
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.”
Romans 12:9 NIV
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”
Ephesians 4:2 NIV
People who nitpick typically do it to to either boost their ego (pride) or cast the light away from their issues (sin). Nitpicking does not build others help or support improvement, it is only to tear people down. Stealing joy is not the work of our Father who wants us in joy and peace. Nit pickers are sinners, so recognize when this is happening and so not indulge the doubt. Be in the Word daily and protect yourself with faith. Pray for the nitpickers whilst being humble and patient, hate the sin and cling to the goodness of God.
