Prayer Warrior
We often use this to describe people who we know we can rely on to pray for us. We use this term to describe people who we know when they say “I’ll pray for you” they really well and sometimes we even describe these people as having the ear of God. We are using the word warrior to describe someone who prays relentlessly. What we miss is that these people truly are warriors. When they take the time to pray they are entering the spiritual battlefield and they are at war with the enemy when they pray for you.
When we are praying we are reporting for duty as a soldier of the Lord we are stepping out to fight, to surrender to the Lord, to sacrifice ourselves for the battle, and to serve God and serve others. Prayer warriors step out in faith sacrificing themselves for the greater good, they are truly warriors for the kingdom.
“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
Ephesians 6:18 NIV
I find it interesting that Paul tells the church to be in prayer, to give thanks - those are expected… but then to be watchful.
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”
Colossians 4:2 NIV
Peter also tells us to be watchful.
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
1 Peter 5:8 NIV
There are even more references in the Bible to being alert or sober or clear minded as they talk about being careful because the enemy is lurking near. Prayer warriors not only have the enemy lurking near but send out a signal, almost like they dare him to attack. Prayer warriors go to battle, they fight the fight, and they do it knowing the risks like a soldier who is deployed into war.
So the next time you think about someone as a prayer warrior remember it is not just about the tenacity of their prayers but the battle that they willingly enter for the kingdom of God.
