The Slide

Childhood memories…going down the slide at the playground. Can you see it? Smell fresh air and childhood fun? Now, have you ever tried to

stop 1/2 way down? Maybe if you grab the edges and wrench your shoulder or elbow, but not likely. Once you get the momentum, you are going down the whole slide.

Ok, change gears…ever given what seemed to be clear instructions and watch them not followed? Or have that friend or relative that likes to tweak the recipe and it doesn’t taste good? They just can’t follow directions and it doesn’t turn out well.

Last thought…music. Ever hear a remake of a song you love and it sounds terrible? Or heard a lovely song but it is sung by someone with bad pitch? The music was written well, but executed poorly.

In all these cases something was designed, instructed, and written in a particular way but not used as stated. Can you guess where I am going with this?

The Bible, designed instructions written as the Word of God meant for us to understand how to live. Unfortunately, people question the design as outdated and irrelevant. People choose the parts that they agree with or fit a context instead the instruction in its entirety leaving a bad taste. People become judgemental or crazy zealots that execute His word poorly. In each case the Bible is being misused. It doesn’t mean the Bible is wrong, it means people are wrong.

Even Jesus made it clear that the Bible continued even after he fulfilled the prophecy.

““Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:17-18‬ ‭NIV‬‬
